In any case, WhatsApp has just unveiled a brand-new function called "Silence unknown callers" that automatically mutes calls from unknown numbers. This function was added in response to concerns from WhatsApp users in India who said that the number of spam calls had increased recently.

From nations including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, users in Pakistan have been getting calls from unknown numbers.


In response, WhatsApp stated that it is enhancing its machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) based spam detection algorithms, which aim to cut down on spam and scam calls by 50%.

According to the corporation, the Silence Unknown Callers feature was developed to give consumers more privacy and control over incoming calls.

To protect you from harm, it efficiently eliminates spam, frauds, and calls from unknown numbers. Although you won't hear a ring from these calls, they will still show up in your Call list in case the caller turns out to be significant.


- How to silence unknown callers on WhatsApp

1- Open the WhatsApp app on Android, iPhone, or other platforms.

2- Head to the “Settings” menu.

(To open the Settings menu on Android, press the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. On iOS, meanwhile, you must hit the Settings icon in the lower left corner)

3- Now, tap “Privacy.”

4- Tap "Calls," then click "Silence unknown callers."

If you receive an unknown call or other type of spam call, the feature just mutes the call; therefore, it is encouraged to ban and report the caller.

Open the chat with the number and select "Block" to block an unauthorised phone number on WhatsApp. Tap "Report contact" and then "Block" if you also wish to report the contact. If you block a contact, they won't be able to reach you by phone or message and won't be able to see your updates or profile picture either.
